What Do We Do?

Our goal is to understand the mechanisms underlying musculoskeletal diseases.
We seek discoveries that can be translated into diagnostics, treatments or therapies to reduce the growing health burden associated with arthritis and other musculoskeletal disorders.
Our focus is on delivering effective treatments to the large number of patients with musculoskeletal disorders.
We are a highly interdisciplinary group bringing together expertise in genetics, immunology, rheumatology, orthopaedics, engineering and other disciplines.
Newcastle hosts several key Centres of Research Excellence and has an extremely active research programme.  Direct patient benefit is the key driver behind all of our Translational Medicine Projects.
In addition to our teaching roles here in the Faculty of Medical Sciences we engage in an exciting range of scientific and educational programmes.
